In Sunday's Mumbai Marathon in India Otley Athletic Club's Ian Fisher, again representing Great Britain, was delighted to finish in a pleasing 2 hours 31 minutes 32 seconds in heat of 33C.

Not only is Ian's performance remarkable when considering that the weather for the race was reported to be sunny and 33C but also for the fact that despite his best laid plans for a timely journey from Heathrow, Ian was caught up in the chaos that engulfed the UK's rail network because of Thursday's storms.

This resulted in Ian missing his flight to India on Thursday night and having to catch the next flight the following morning with less than 48 hours to the race and with little time to acclimatise.

Kenya's John Kelai clocked 2:12:28 to win the third Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon.

Kenyans largely dominated the race as they scooped seven of the top ten places in the prestigious event.

Ethiopian Gashaw Melese clocked 2:12:33 to finish second while compatriot Tariku Jufar was third 2:12:50 in the 42km race.

Kenya's Stanley Leleito was fourth in 2:14:22 and was closely trailed by compatriot Robert Cheruiyot in 2:14:50. Robert Kipyego (2:15.00) and Vincent Kiplagat (2:16:09) returned sixth and seventh positions respectively, while Jacob Mengich was eighth in 2:15:33.

Julius Kiprotich clocked 2:17:06 to complete the top ten places behind ninth-placed Michael Ngeseke from Zimbabwe, who clocked 2:16:08.

The Mumbai Marathon is the world's most lucrative athletics race and is part of the Standard Chartered Greatest Race on Earth, a tough four-leg relay marathon being contested in four countries over a five month period. It carries a total prize purse of $1, 5 million.
