Sheffield University Bankers 5 Ben Rhydding 4
BEN Rhydding travelled to Sheffield looking to boost their North Men's Premier League survival bid but conceded a soft goal within the first minute.
Bankers had them on the back foot for most of the first half and Rhydding struggled to manage the numbers coming through the wide spaces.
Another unopposed shot gave them the second and soon after the Bankers found themselves 3-0 up on the break.
Rhydding got themselves back in the game with a great goal on the post from Olly Hopkinson-Cook and began to play with their heads up.
Bankers came out positively after the half-time break and did not take long to score a fourth goal, making good connections to pass around the Rhydding defence to force a goalmouth scramble.
Connor Dowley opened up the pitch with a superb run and slotted the ball through to Callum Franks who made a killer pass to Struan Connor to get a shot off which Phil McMorris was able to mop up to make the score 4-2. With the clock ticking down, Rhydding’s coach took the keeper off and this paid immediate dividends with Will Musgrave scoring.
Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration allowed Sheffield to break away despite being a man down to make it 5-3.
Franks scored a great goal to bring Rhydding back to 5-4 but the Sheffield keeper would not release the ball for the re-start and his conduct was met with a red card.
Sadly, Franks also received a red card for being involved in the fray.
The game ended on this sour and utterly exasperating note for Ben Rhydding who have wo games to save themselves.
