York 3
Ben Rhydding 1
IT was a dismal day for Ben Rhydding in their last game before the Christmas break, losing to bottom of the league,York, at home in a lifeless, complacent performance at home.
Rhydding were caught napping from the first whistle as York sliced through them and nearly scored with just 10 seconds on the clock.
Whilst Rhydding had the lion’s share of possession, it was York that scored to go ahead with a range of unmarked players to choose from in the circle.
Rhydding replied with a well-taken, ‘floor to score’ goal from Wil Jones.
From here, they should have taken the game by the throat but the energy just was not there.
York scored an easy goal against passive defending to take a 2-1 lead.
They capitalised on poor Rhydding marking again to make it 3-1 going into half-time.
The second half was a dull affair of dead hockey. And even with 10 minutes of an extra man, Rhydding could not make an impact and York ran out the deserving winners.
The next game for the Ben Rhydding men will away to the University of Durham Men's 2nd team on Saturday, January 11.
* The Ben Rhydding Women's 1st team have one match before the winter break, as they will host Brooklands-Poynton in the Investec Tier 1 Championships, starting at noon this Saturday.
