A GUISELEY AFC youngster has earned a trial at Sky Bet League One club Sunderland.
Nathan Newall, who only burst onto the scene this past season, will be eager to make the jump up the divisions.
The Baildon-born defender, 19, joined the club's academy in 2017, and signed first team forms a year later.
Loan spells at Frickley Athletic and Ossett United followed before Newall scored his first senior goal in the last minute at Boston United after coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw.
He made his first start just under a month later in November against Gloucester City.
Meanwhile, the age group Newall was once part of has seen their league season curtailed with immediate effect.
The National League under-19 Alliance committee unanimously agreed that no further matches should take place after considering the overall integrity of the competition.
The decision was also reached to allow clubs to prepare for the 2021/22 campaign with no distractions and letting the players fully concentrate on their educational commitments.
Dave Currie’s Young Lions only managed to fit in one league fixture, a 1-0 victory over York City, due to Covid-19 restrictions and a remarkable FA Youth Cup run.
Emley, Sheffield FC and FC Halifax Town were all swept aside before that amazing win at Bolton Wanderers.
Guiseley finally came unstuck against a strong Cambridge United side.
