GUISELEY failed to create enough chances to really trouble Hereford on Saturday- their longest trip of the season in the National League North.

The Lions made one change, Regan Hutchinson replacing the unavailable Scott McLean. Once again skipper Hamza Bencherif started on the bench, while Owen Mason took his place in goal after his loan period was extended by Mansfield Town.

The teenage ‘keeper was called into action in the fifth minute when he was forced into a good save when Ryan Lloyd unleashed a powerful dipping shot. Hereford created another great chance in the seventh minute as Seb Revan got in behind the defence, but he shot over from a tight angle.

Twice in quick succession Mason was called into action in one-on-one situations with Ryan McLean when firstly McLean drove forward and only had the ‘keeper to beat but the youngster pulled off a great stop.

Then McLean challenged Mason again but he pulled off a great one handed save.

Hereford were up and running and they again found an opening in the 11th minute when Maziar Kouhyar saw his shot from close range cannon off the bar.

Guiseley’s first chance came in the 18th minute when Lebrun Mbeka’s header went straight into the arms of Mason. Guiseley manager Russ O’Neill received the first booking of the afternoon in the 24th minute.

Hereford looked certain to score when Krystian Pearce was played in behind the Guiseley defence but Ollie Brown appeared from nowhere to clear the ball.

Brown, a Guiseley Academy product, has impressed as he has made a claim for a regular spot in the side, this being his 11th successive start in first team games and his 13th overall, along with four sub appearances.

At the other end David Bremang tried to get a shot off but Pearce made a good block before Hutchinson just failed to curl the ball into the net following George Cantrill’s quick throw in.

Hereford opened the scoring in the 41st minute when Kouhyar slotted past Mason and they almost doubled their lead in the 44th minute when Tom Owen-Evans had a good chance but fired straight at Mason. As the half came to a close they had another chance but McLean fired wide. Hereford had dominated the first-half and should have had more to show for their efforts.

Guiseley started the second-half with Bremang picking up a yellow card and the substitution of Lewis Hey for Brown in the 53rd minute.

Hey was free in the box in the 58th minute but he couldn’t beat Brandon Hall with his shot.

Dom Tear’s corner produced a further chance to level but Jason Sraha couldn’t get his effort on target. Hutchinson picked up a yellow card in the 66th minute prior to a chance for Guiseley in the 73rd minute as Bremang rounded Hall but his shot hit the side netting.

Three minutes later Sraha showed great composure and skill to take the ball off Miles Storey’s toes and then beat three men before firing a shot into the arms of the ‘keeper.

Hereford responded with a neat move that ended with Keenan Patten’s shot from a tight angle being saved by Mason

Hereford then sealed their victory in front of a crowd of 1,680 with a second goal in the 86th minute as Kouhyar doubled his tally with a composed finish, 2-0 (FT).

Guiseley return to action on Saturday when they host Bylth Spartans.
