Four fighters from Alan Burnley’s Aireborough Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) gym were keen to showcase their skills on a recent Leeds amateur show.
The event was organised by Richard Smith and his wife Lisa from Horsforth who run Bad Company gym in east Leeds.
At 20, Rhys King with six years of training was the eldest participant. Roman Dunsford 17 and Marcus Nutman 14 had their second bouts with two years and eighteen months training respectively, and for Felix Richardson 15 it was his first after eight months at the club.
Richardson was delighted to win his bout, commenting: “It was a very hard fight as my opponent was a technical expert. I had to dig deep to get the win.”
Nutman said: “I won my fight by technical knockout in the second round via a spinning back kick.
“I put a lot of effort into training in the gym and running miles outside of it. Credit goes to my coach Alan Burnley, who tells me what I ‘m doing well and what I need to work on as he pushes me to exceed my limits in training.
“The event itself was well attended. Lots of my family, friends and training partners provided great support to the team.
“I’m fighting next on July 9 in Bolton, and I hope to put on another good performance.”
Burnley was keen to commend Marcus stating: “It was a fantastic performance using a very advanced technique to stop his opponent by technical knockout.
“It was a great learning experience for the lads who were selected owing to their commitment to a demanding training schedule,” added Burnley.
“They were matched based on age, weight, and previous fighting experience so bouts were competitive for both fighters. Aireborough fighters are excited for further opportunities to show just what they can do.”
