MENSTON’S fifth team are off the mark at last in Division Four of the Timothy Taylor’s Craven League.
After three defeats and two abandonments due to rain, they won at the sixth attempt, defeating Long Lee II at High Royds.
Menston elected to bowl first and dismissed the visitors for 92 in 38.1 overs, with 13-year-old Henry Dodgson (4-22) and fellow youngsters James Woodthorpe (3-19) and Dan Biddulph (2-13) among the wickets as all six bowlers returned tidy figures.
Then five batters reached double figures, the best of which was Rory Southern’s 16, to help Menston win by four wickets in the 28th over.
The victory moved them three places up the table from bottom to eighth.
Meanwhile, Menston Fourths are also finding life tough in Division Three.
They sit third from bottom after losing by seven wickets at new leaders Long Lee.
Menston chose to bat, but could only score 88, with three players scoring three-quarters of their runs - 15-year-old opener Elliot Harrison (20), 18-year-old No 3 Will Lowans (19) and No 6 Qasim Hassan (26).
After being dismissed inside 19 overs, Menston at least detained Long Lee until the 23rd over, with Rob Binley again a stand-out in taking 2-12 off eight overs.
