NOT for the first time this season, a teenage girl has recorded a five-fer in the Timothy Taylor’s Craven League.
Following 14-year-old Alyssa Carver’s outstanding 5-9 for Hepworth & Idle III at Long Lee II in Division Four in May, 17-year-old Emily Burns took 6-37 for Menston IV last Saturday at home to Keighley III in Division Three.
Sent in, the visitors made 167, with second change Burns, who also plays for Menston Women’s first XI and Menston under-15s, taking her wickets in 9.2 overs, backed up by Benji Newton (2-32) and Ali Asghar (2-39).
Menston then triumphed by four wickets in the 31st over as Haroon Rashid scored 50 in 51 balls and 17-year-old keeper Sam Rhodes 56 not off 44 balls, including seven fours.
The win enabed Menston to consolidate their fourth place, and they are now only four points behind Cowling II and six points adrift of second-placed Silsden II.
Meanwhile, Menston V’s had to concede to Bowling Baptists II in Division Four due to a lack of players.
