RAWDON have finally ended their run of successive defeats in the Aire-Wharfe League Premier Division.
They hadn’t won for nine matches in a sequence of losses stretching back to June 22, when they beat Steeton, but ended that horror trot on Sunday when they defeated Bilton in style by eight wickets, relegating them in the process.
In a match that was re-arranged from earlier in the season, Rawdon won the toss and chose to field, Bilton recovering from 111-6 to make 213.
Tom Wrigglesworth took 5-68 and he then starred with the bat, hitting 90 not out as the target was passed in just the 27th over.
Skipper James Dobson (56no) accompanied him in an unbroken partnership of 158, with Dobson hitting seven fours and a six from 65 deliveries, and Wrigglesworth 10 fours and five sixes from a mere 60 balls for a strike rate of 150.
The previous day, Rawdon had lost a decent contest at home to Pool by two wickets, making 186 after opting to bat, nine players reaching double figures, the best of which was opener Andrew Duckworth (34) as Charlie Bell took 3-69.
Pool were 92-6 after tea, but were seen to a two-wicket victory in the 48th over by Will Pallister (41no) and Dan Swales (15no) to deny Andrew Doidge (3-34).
However, Rawdon are still second from bottom, 26 points behind Steeton with four matches left.
At the top, Otley won a low-scoring match at Bilton on Saturday and are 54 points ahead of Pool, who had a double weekend.
Bilton could only make 118 batting first as Roby Lane took 5-22 and Jake Ross 3-35, but Otley lost six wickets in passing that score in the 27th over, despite openers George Myers (23) and George Huntley (39) getting starts and them being 67-1.
On Sunday, Pool had a convincing win at home to Adel, making 227-9 after being sent in, Logan Duval (52) and Bell (45) putting on 71 for the second wicket before keeper Freddie Read (37) added 62 for the sixth with Pallister (24).
It took Pool until the 31st over to dismiss Adel, but they could only score 76, with Kruthik Patel taking 6-21 and Bell 2-21.
Pool have climbed from fifth with those 39 points, by-passing Burley, who lost by five wickets at North Leeds on Saturday.
Burley made 233-8 in a solid card that was highlighted by Jason Wright’s 63 not out, but their seven bowlers could not stop the hosts from winning in the 48th over.
Having lost to Adel by 117 runs on Saturday, despite Regan Phillips taking 4-36 and Michael Loubser and Joe Greaves scoring 41 and 37 respectively, Horsforth Hall Park bounced back in comprehensive fashion on Sunday at North Leeds.
They dismissed the hosts for 71, with Jacob Phillips having the remarkable analysis of 7-4-6-6, backed up by Sam Hyde’s 3-21.
Loubser then finished the match quick sharp with 59 not out from 28 balls, including seven fours and four sixes in a 10-wicket victory inside eight overs to stay eighth.
In Division One, Addingham are 47 points clear after a derby victory at home to Olicanian on Saturday.
Tom Smallwood made 60 in Olicanian’s 154, Ricky Palacio taking 5-56, and the latter then scored 47 in an opening stand of 82 with James Hall (36) as Addingham won by six wickets at the end of the 35th over.
Ilkley were in action twice, losing at home to Bolton Villas on Saturday in a run-filled thriller before edging past hosts Harden by eight runs on Sunday.
Will Spivey (69) and Rory Kroon (27) made good use of the toss, putting on 75 for Ilkley’s first wicket against Villas before Nick Schofield hit a run-a-ball 65 not out, aided by Rob Spivey’s 29 not out in a total of 265-6.
However, Villas were 39-3, Paul Dover taking all those wickets on the way to 4-36, Dan Bott chipping in with 3-74 as the visitors won by two wickets off the first ball of the last over.
Winning the toss at Harden, Ilkley’s first five all made double figures in their 244, but the real impetus came down the card from Schofield (76 off 63 balls including nine fours and three sixes) and Rob Spivey (31) as they added 84.
Harden were 73-6 but almost pulled off a superb victory, finishing on 236 as Schofield took 4-54 and Rob Spivey 4-39.
On Sunday, Olicanian won by four wickets at Guiseley, the hosts making 191 after being put in, skipper Joel Newlove top-scoring with 45 as Manley du Preez took 3-20 and Tom Starkey 4-38.
Starkey then scored 51 up top, adding 89 for the second wicket with Neyko Stiglingh (47) as Olicanian won by four wickets with eight overs to spare to go fifth.
On Saturday, Guiseley held their nerve to beat visitors New Rover by one wicket, Aniket Rana taking 4-67 as New Rover made 195 after choosing to bat.
Guiseley were looking anything but winners at 84-6, but the middle and lower order did their stuff and they triumphed with 15 balls to spare, Newlove again being in the runs with 32, backed by Gavin Hamilton (29) and James Davey (28).
In Division Two, Menston are leading by 40 points, but didn’t capitalise on a great start at home to Alwoodley on Saturday.
Captain and keeper Adam Montague-Millar (59) and Tom Mounsey (64) put on 124 for the first wicket, but they only totalled 190.
However, Alwoodley were skittled for 82 by overseas Zarshad Khan (7-26) and George Marsden (2-8).
Green Lane notched two away wins - beating Leeds Modernians by 66 runs and Horsforth by four wickets - to climb to sixth.
Mark McEneaney and keeper Phil Atkinson both scored 34 in Lane’s 175 at Mods before Ben Roberts took 5-39 and McEneaney 3-20 as the hosts were dismissed for 109.
Roberts bagged 3-47 and Dan Frost 3-42 as Horsforth were all out for 169, opener Max Lee (76no) guiding Lane to victory in the 46th over, despite Matthew Wainwright taking 4-52.
On Saturday, Horsforth lost by one wicket at home to Shadwell, Joe O’Gorman (76) and Matthew Cordingley (21) putting on 62 for Horsforth’s first wicket in their 210.
Shadwell were 51-5 but won with a last-wicket partnership of 10 to deny Wainwright (3-54) and O’Gorman (3-52).
On Sunday, Mods were thrashed by hosts Alwoodley by 163 runs.
