It was a weekend of surprises and excitement in the Airedale and Wharfedale League.
With both league leaders toppled, Rawdon and Thackley took over the top spots in Division One and Two while, in the Third Division, Olicanians, Bolton Villas and Ilkley are separated by only three points and have opened up a 12-point gap to fourth place, now filled by Menston.
Collingham responded to their 26-point deduction with a seven-wicket win over Division One leaders North Leeds, leaving the way clear for Rawdon, who beat fourth-placed Beckwithshaw with three balls to spare.
David Morgan (5-60) helped restrict Beckwithshaw to 220 and then hit a half-century which, together with skipper Stewart Smith’s 70, set the platform for Rawdon to get home by four wickets.
Burley also leapt up the table, taking over third spot with a decisive win over Calverley.
Shane Franklin picked up five wickets for the visitors but Burley still set a target of 236-9, with Nick Brook hitting 65 and 17-year-old Ryan Cooper scoring his maiden half-century.
Brook then bagged 5-25 as Calverley were dismissed for 113, despite a spirited 40 from Imran Mirza.
Yasir Ali hit a superb, unbeaten 124 in Green Lane’s 248-7 but Kirkstall clinched victory in the final over.
Silsden’s new found form ground to a halt at Guiseley where run machine Vivek Mahajan was dismissed for just four to end his prolific run.
Opener Nathan Bradbury steered the early course with 30 but lost Tim Sugden for seven and Mahajan before establishing a small partnership with Lee Bilbrough (27).
Simon Cox then added 28 but the Silsden tail was whipped out with six batsmen notching just 14 runs between them as they finished on 129-9.
They had struggled against tight bowling from Guiseley skipper David Pennett, the former Notts county player brought through the ranks at Guiseley, (0-19 off eight overs), Marcus Brown (0-7 off nine overs), Andrew Paley (1-24 off nine), John Ormesher (2-6 off seven) and Robert Atkinson (2-18 off eight).
Guiseley lost opener Mark Ross without scoring but Adam Waite continued his good form with an unbeaten 50 while Alex Bell made 35 and Ormesher 18 as they won in 30 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Australian Dale Tormey (69) and Matthew O’Grady were the main contributors as Otley beat Adel to gain their third win in the last four games.
Upper Wharfedale pulled off the shock of the day in Division Two. Phil Binner (5-61) was the architect of Illingworth’s destruction with 5-61 before Justin Graham (87no) and James Freebury (65no) put on 165 to clinch a seven-wicket win. That allowed Thackley to go top by taking five points off Bilton.
Rick Breakwell (73), Liaq ur Rehman (48) and Leon Harber (46no) led the way as the home side reached 229-7, then Mahir Ali took 6-49 – taking his tally to 43 wickets in the last seven games – as Bilton clung on for a point.
Steeton gained a five wickets win at Colton where the home side made 173-9, Jon Best taking 4-32 and M Spragg 3-21.
Opener Jye Sampson hit a half-century as Steeton got home with three balls to spare. Sampson’s 57 and Neil Spragg’s 43 led them home in the final over.
Tong Park Esholt gained a massive win over visitors Harden, triumphing by a 138 runs margin.
Tong Park Esholt made an excellent 261-4 with a magnificent 148 not out from opener Luke Waters who was aided by a fine 58 from Gareth Wilkinson and 30 from fellow opener James Druce.
This pair shared an opening stand of 95.
Harden then fell for 123 in reply as Nadeem Hanif took 5-41 off 17 overs. Harden were in a desperate mess at 547-7 but tailenders Nick Verity (34) and Lee Spragg (46no) gave them some respectability.
Pool made a more than useful 227 all out with sound contributions from L Holdsworth (41), S Bent (37), C Loveridge (33) and Richard Henry (30). Bardsey then fell for 134 as Loveridge completed a good all-round show with 4-43 and there were two wickets apiece for Sam Wilkinson, James Ward and Bent.
Skipton entertained Ben Rhydding, who posted a score of 166-9 having struggled against the bowling of Simon Ashmore (3-43 off 12 overs) and S Nadeem (4-24 off ten overs).
Opener M Booth led the way for the Ilkley side with 52 and there were good contributions from C Swallow with 39 and R Oldham with 24 not out.
Skipton made a poor start losing both Gary Owens (3) and Steve Carling (1) with just four runs on the board.
They fell victim to Nick Smith, who continued to be the scourge of the Skipton innings taking 6-28 off a superb 17 over spell.
He had good support from Swallow with 2-37 off 14 overs. Top scorer for Skipton was Nadeem with 36 from the number three spot and he was sixth out with the score on 50.
Richard Walker showed some resistance with an unbeaten 14 but Skipton were finally out out for 93 in the 42nd over.
As expected, Division Three leaders Olicanians dominated New Rover but found them a tough side to beat and had to settle for five points.
Darren Murray (87) and Ian Thomas (85) were their star performers. They shared an opening stand of 161.as their side made 232-9.
Amidst the batting mayhem T Rhea managed to pick up 6-56 off ten overs.
New Rover replied with 107-9, the good work of Bernard Hughes (3-43 off 16 overs), Will Pearson (2-8 off ten) and Ed Brown (2-2 off six) unable to prise out the last man to gain full points.
Ilkley took their record to five wins in six matches with an eight-wicket victory at Hall Park. Rory Kroom (47) was Ilkley’s top-scorer.
Woodhouse defeated Horsforth by a massive 177 runs after notching 284-6. Danesh Raheja stole the show with a magnificent 93 and was aided by 59 from Nathan Henry and 41 from Farouq Alam.
