Guiseley manager Steve Kittrick has explained why striker Danny Forrest has left the club.

The Lions boss said: “Danny wanted regular first-team football and we couldn’t offer him that.”

The 27-year-old Keighley-born player came to Nethermoor in January 2011 on loan from Barrow and made 40 starts in two spells for Guiseley, plus 21 substitute appearances, scoring 12 goals.

Kittrick said: “Danny only made 28 starts and came on 13 times as a substitute last season because of injury, and that is why we didn't offer him a contract. He also got injured this season.”

After talks between Kittrick and Forrest last week, it was decided that it was in both parties’ best interests for the latter to find a new club.

The popular Forrest told the club’s website: “I’m gutted to be leaving and I wish the club the very best in the future.

“All the lads are top notch and the fans are great. I’ll miss them but I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on Guiseley’s results.

“I just want to play football every Saturday and hopefully this will help me do that.”

Kittrick said of the FA Cup win at Bamber Bridge: “A win is a win but we didn’t play particularly well and avoided a potential banana skin.

"We had ten per cent of play in the first half and 90 per cent after.”
